I’ve always been comfortable being by myself. I could walk around the city, eat in restaurants, go shopping, read in a park bench, and do other mundane things without company. I am an ambivert. I love being with people, but I also value my solitude. Tonight, instead of going out with others, I went on a “self-date”.

I was craving for Thai food tonight, and felt like being adventurous. I wanted to explore Hell’s Kitchen as there are a lot of good Thai restaurants in that neighborhood. I was thinking that if I was to go for Thai food, might as well go to the best place to have it. I did a quick search on Yelp, and found the restaurant on top of the list. It led me to this awesome restaurant called Pure Thai Cookhouse

Pure Thai Cookhouse is a tiny restaurant in the heart of Hell’s Kitchen that boasts of serving authentic Thai food. I was actually very surprised as to how tiny it was! There was a long wait, but since I was by myself, I got a seat after only 15 minutes (It was a 45 minute to an hour wait for a table for 2!). That’s one perk of dining alone, you easily get a seat in a busy restaurant!

I ordered Thai iced tea, and their most popular dish on Yelp, the Ratchaburi Crab & Pork Dry Noodles which is made up of handmade egg noodles, roasted pork, lump crab meat, yu choy and scallion. I’ve been told by a friend who lived in Thailand that authentic Thai food is so much different from the Thai food we have here in America. And boy was he right! I absolutely loved the Ratchaburi! I’m glad I ordered a new dish instead of my usual Pad Thai or Pad See Ew (don’t get me wrong though, I still love those dishes!).

After my scrumptious meal, I walked to Columbus Circle. I love taking walks in this city. There is always something new to see, and interesting stuff happening!

So that’s how I spent my Friday night. I explored a new restaurant, and tried a new dish. I am making it a goal to have more spontaneous nights like this one!

Pure Thai Cookhouse is located on 766 9th Avenue, New York, NY 10019 (between 51st and 52nd St).
